Evacuated Tube Solar Panel... High Performance Solar Heating

Solar evacuated tube solar panels offer high performance solutions for solar hot water heating in all climates.

Evacuated tube solar panel or solar collector captures solar energy to make solar hot water. These solar panels are often called evacuated tube, solar tube collector and heat pipes.

An evacuated tube panel, the glass tube surrounds the absorber plate. The vacuum between the plate and tube serves as insulation to reducing heat losses and increases efficiency.

Application. Solar heating panels produce higher temperatures than flat plate collectors reach. Application such as commercial or industrial processes use this solar collector to meet high demand solar heating and solar hot water needs

.

Examples include commercial applications lodging facilities, schools, and resturants. These applications require large quantities of hot water. Evacuated tube collectors can be designed to reach temperatures as much as 350°F (177°C).

Evacuaed tubes are appropriate for cooling application by regenerating refrigeration cycles.

These solar panels perform more efficiently in cloudy weather when water temperatures range from 170 °F (77°C) to 350°F (177°C). They are an alternative to flat plate collectors where cloudy and shaded conditions exist.

Investment and Cost-Effectiveness. The evacuated tube is a high efficiency collector. This allows 93% of the Sun’s solar energy to reach the collector.

Each tube has air is removed from it to minimize heat loss, 3% to 5%, through convection and radiation. This allows these solar collectors to work in sub zero temperatures.

They cost approximately 20% more than flat-plate collectors. Given the additional cost of the solar collector, you may not benefit from the additional cost.

How Evacuated Tube Panels Work. The evacuated tube use parallel rows of glass tubes connected to a header pipe. Each tube has the air removed to eliminate heat loss through convection and radiation.

Evacuated tube solar collector use parallel glass tubes interconnected in a manifold along the top of the collector. Parallel rows of transparent glass tubes absorb heat like a thermos bottle. This results in high temperatures, and minimum loss of heat.

Evacuated tube fall into two main groups; direct flow tubes and heat pipe tubes.

Evacuated tube panels are very efficient when used in cold climates with low level diffuse sunlight.
